Meet Adriene O'Brien
In a small town like Tlell, the local general store is more than a place to get groceries and supplies. The Crow’s Nest Cafe & Country Store is more like a social hall. Every time you stop in for a jug of milk or a cup of coffee, you’re bound to run into someone you know, and suddenly your trip to the store becomes a social event. It’s one of the main reasons that Adriene loves her work at the Crow’s Nest. She adds that “I have lived on Haida Gwaii my whole life and I love connecting with everyone and making sure that they leave the store with a smile on their face”.
After three years of working at the Crow’s Nest Café & Country Store as an employee, Adriene was offered (and accepted) an opportunity to purchase the established business in 2016 and make Tlell her permanent home. Adriene has made a few changes within the store in response to customer demand and is pleased to be offering a very popular weekend brunch.
Adriene has observed that “With tourism increasing, Tlell is a much busier place from May to September, than it has been in the past”. With its close proximity to East Beach, Misty Meadows Campground, the B & B’s in the area and the Edge of the World Music Festival, the Crow’s Nest has become a very popular one-stop shop for local residents and visitors alike.
Although she enjoys meeting the demands of her business and keeping her customers happy, family is important to Adriene and she takes the time once a week to attend a family dinner at her sister’s home in the Village of Queen Charlotte.
Dynamic. Fresh. Conscientious.
