Meet Lance Barker
After living in the Yukon for almost 20 years, Lance was drawn to Haida Gwaii’s mild climate and remote wilderness. “I’m not a city person,” said Lance, “I enjoy living in Queen Charlotte because of the small population of friendly and helpful people.” Lance also enjoys the beaches, the wildlife and the forests. Lance appreciates the solitude of the surroundings and camping with his young daughter in some of the most amazing wilderness around. He recalls camping in Grey Bay where he was happily the only soul on the beach for the entire weekend.
Lance has always been an entrepreneur and finds satisfaction in being his own boss. “It’s rewarding to make things work and to satisfy customers,” said Lance who has spent the last ten years working as an electrician.
Lance operates Rooms To Go, a deluxe mobile accommodation service for Haida Gwaii. “I am looking forward to this new business venture,” said Lance, “and being able to spend more time with my young daughter.” When the bus is moving locations and being prepped between clients, Lance plans to use that time to camp with his daughter and simply enjoy their time together.
Classy. Relaxing. Unique.
Rooms To Go provides deluxe accommodation in a classy Greyhound bus conversion that local entrepreneur Lance Barker delivers and sets up at the location of your choice. Lance can park the bus anywhere on Graham Island and there are many gorgeous provincial campsites, private campgrounds and recreation sites you can choose from. Among other locations, the bus can be parked at Agate Beach out by Tow Hill near North Beach, Port Clements, Misty Meadows and more. Lance can recommend camping locations too as he has explored all the sites and is familiar with what the different locations have to offer.
If people arrive on the island and have their own vehicle they can simply drive to their chosen location and know their luxury bus is waiting for them. If visitors fly into Haida Gwaii or travel via BC Ferries, Lance can drop off an automatic rental truck that seats three and you can drive yourself to your luxury rental bus accommodation. The rental truck comes with a GPS so you can be guided to the bus location. “It’s hassle-free RV,” said Lance.
Lance explains the bus conversion is tastefully done inside and completely set up. “It has two televisions, a DVD player, a three burner propane stove, a good sized fridge and freezer, a microwave, one queen bed and a pullout couch.” The bus can sleep four adults comfortably, is powered via solar power and a battery bank, and comes with a back-up generator for hot water and features both propane and electric heat. Lance has thought of every need and the bus even comes with lawn chairs, a BBQ, some kindling and a small swede saw for starting your own campfires. The bus can hold 100 gallons of water and Lance makes sure you’ll have enough to last your stay.
Rooms To Go charges $200 per night with a minimum three-night booking. “It’s deluxe camping,” said Lance, “you can RV like a rockstar with Rooms To Go”.
Lance is currently busy working on another bus on a five-ton truck. This newest addition to Rooms To Go will have higher clearance and be able to go places his current Greyhound Conversion bus can’t travel to. “This next one will be the Morseby Island and Reynold Sound bus,” explained Lance, “with two double beds and an interior that is finished with wood beautifully like the interior of a boat”. To match this future business expansion, Lance is also looking into renting out a jeep that will seat four.
Rooms To Go provides deluxe accommodation delivered to your preferred location with an option of a vehicle rental if needed. Lance is always happy to recommend prime locations and make sure you have the best experience with his “hassle-free RV” business.
