Meet Brett Leslie, Manager
The Sandspit Inn has been providing quality, clean and comfortable accommodations on Moresby Island for more than two decades and has long been the heart of the community’s social life. Its ownership was taken over by the Sandspit Community Society in 2014. The non-profit group is dedicated to promoting economic growth and stability in Sandspit and the surrounding region, particularly through encouraging tourism. As tourism advocates and supporters, the purchase of a business like the Sandspit Inn which provides such an essential service to the island made economic and philosophical sense. Profits generated by the Sandspit Inn are put toward projects which benefit the community of Sandspit and its residents.
The Sandspit Community Society is governed by a volunteer board of directors which is made up of members of the community, and society membership is made up of Sandspit residents. The Sandspit Community Society operates a number of local ventures, including the Sandspit Visitor Centre. Society members have a passion for seeing the community thrive, knowing that Sandspit has a great deal to offer both visitors and residents, including access to the spectacular sights of Gwaii Haanas.
There is more to Sandspit than its incredible beauty, though. There is a sense of community here that binds people together, and the fact that everybody knows everybody gives it a feel of being part of a big extended family. It is culturally diverse and home to talented artists, business people and very giving, caring citizens. Society members believe that the future is bright for Sandspit and that there is much opportunity to be found here.
Relaxing. Inviting. Serene.
