Meet Kye Borserio & Luke Borserio

Kye Borserio & Luke Borserio is the owner of Kitgoro Kayaking

Kayaking isn’t just a job for Kye and Luke Borserio, it’s a lifestyle. The brothers grew up kayaking the waters in and around Haida Gwaii. Born and raised on Haida Gwaii, they note that the islands are uniquely and ideally situated to be conducive to so many different kinds of outdoor adventures, whether that be kayaking, surfing, hiking, hunting or fishing. According to Kye, there is simply no other place on earth quite like Haida Gwaii, and it isn’t only because of its natural beauty. “The people and the culture can’t be compared to anywhere else. They are incredibly supportive and enthusiastic,” Kye proclaims.

In their earlier years, the brothers led several kayak trips for local eco-tourism company Queen Charlotte Adventures. They soon learned that the kayak portion of the business was up for sale, and the brothers began entertaining the notion of purchasing it. In fact, they were kayaking around Rennel Sound as they discussed the idea together. “We decided it would be great to be able to kayak every day in the summer,” says Kye, and the rest is history.

Kayaking is a big part of both Kye’s and Luke’s lives. They kayak every day that weather doesn’t keep them land-bound. When they aren’t guiding guests or taking friends and family out, they’re kayaking just for fun, just for themselves. Whether it is ocean, surf or river/creek kayaking, they are constantly reminded how fortunate they are to be able to do so much of what they love. “We take people to places we have gone our entire life and it is amazing to see their faces light up at how beautiful it is,” says Kye. “It makes us realize how lucky we are.”
