Meet Merlin Naylor
Merlin is inspired by Haida Gwaii and his unique business, Uproot Guest House, was built upon Haida Gwaii’s vast resource of up-cycled and found natural materials. Merlin salvaged things that were weather-worn or old and incorporated them into his Uproot Guest House. “Becoming an entrepreneur was self-motivating,” said Merlin, “and provided me with an opportunity to fill a niche for natural salvage and design.” The construction of his artistic accommodation was an adventure for Merlin. He liked being able to design and build a business that now financially enables his other interests and hobbies.
Merlin loves Haida Gwaii for all the wonders the land has to offer. “What I enjoy most about Masset is the unlimited access to the wild,” said Merlin. He enjoys adventuring throughout Haida Gwaii and foraging for a delicious addition to his next meal. It’s not only the nature that Merlin enjoys, he also appreciates the cool small businesses in Masset such as Ground Gallery & Coffee House.
